The People Who Watch but Don’t Clap (and Why That’s Okay)
The People Who Watch but Don’t Clap
Hey,
Running a business online is weird, isn’t it? You pour your heart into what you do, share the behind-the-scenes, try to stay consistent, and somewhere out there… people are watching.
Some clap loudly. Some message you to say they love your work. And some? They never engage at all…but you know they’re there 👀
🌿 Being Seen (Even When It’s Uncomfortable)
The truth is, once you start showing up online, you become visible in ways you can’t control. You’ll inspire some, confuse others, and sometimes unintentionally ruffle feathers.
It’s easy to forget that not every reaction is about you. Often it’s about what you trigger; ambition, comparison, inspiration, even discomfort. People project their own stuff onto what they see. That’s human. That’s also not on you.
🌸 Mistakes, Misreads & Lessons
I’ve definitely made posts that didn’t land the way I meant. Maybe you have too. And that’s okay, it’s how we learn. It’s easy to pick apart how you could’ve done things differently but for us small businesses that could mean second guessing everything you do and shrinking.
If anything, those moments reveal who’s truly watching. Who asks instead of assuming. Who quietly screenshoots instead of clapping. IYKYK 😉
But I’ve realised I’d rather make the odd messy, well-intentioned mistake while building something real than stay silent to keep everyone comfortable. Progress is noisy. Its ‘cringe’, and self believing, and discovering more about yourself.
🌾 The Quiet Audience
There’s a strange comfort in knowing that even when engagement dips, eyes are still on you. People are paying attention, even if they don’t press like.
Maybe they’re shy. Maybe they’re comparing. Maybe they just don’t know how to support yet. Whatever the reason; it’s not our job to decode it. Our job is to keep creating, sharing, and showing up for the ones who do clap.
🌿 Choosing Energy Wisely
Social media isn’t the whole truth. It’s a highlight reel of moments that exist between the real work; the flower buckets, the late-night planning, the ideas that may never make it to a grid post, the lack of sleep 😴
So I’m learning to save my energy for the things that matter: honest conversations, creative freedom, and the people who bring good vibes into the room (online or off).
🌸 The Wild, Bold Truth
If you’re building something; a business, a dream, something different…you’ll be watched. Some will cheer. Some won’t. Keep going anyway and build the circle of people who know you to remind you that you’re not a bad person after all ✨
Remember where you started, and be proud of yourself for showing up.
To the ones who create anyway, in public, imperfectly.
Let them watch. 🌸

Flaurals Floristry x Scottish EDGE Finalist 🌸
I’m so proud to share that I’ve made it to the Scottish EDGE - Young EDGE Final; one of Scotland’s biggest funding competitions; that celebrates innovation and entrepreneurship.
This 3 minute video is my official admission video that got me to the final, telling the story of how I’ve grown Flaurals from an honesty box in Halkirk to a bold, sustainable business rooted in the Highlands.
It’s a story about flowers, feminism, and finding your place; proof that big ideas can grow right here, in the North of Scotland!

October at Flaurals Floral Design: EDGE Finalist, Tie the Knot Feature & Autumn Nights
Hey,
So here we are in October already. I thought I’d shift things up a little this month. Instead of cramming my whole life story into the newsletter (they were getting longer every month) I’ll keep those emails neat and tidy (workshops, updates, honesty box plans, the big news!) and save my unhinged ramblings for here on the blog. That way, if you’re here for flowers and updates, great. If you’re here for chaos….even better!
🌀 Life Chaos
September was… a lot. Between the website, finishing IMPACT 30, prepping for workshops, getting into Tie the Knot Scotland, and the Scottish EDGE application submission, I feel like I’ve been living in fast forward. Add in frosty mornings, the storm that took out my honesty box, and my garage still waiting on me to get my finger out…it’s been a season of pushing so many things. Then with a sick toddler on top of it all, I’ve been pulled in all directions.
💭 Mental Health Check-In
The darker nights always shift my mood, I know it happens but it still catches me off guard every year. I have been doing my best to get fresh air every day and making the most of that sunlight before it fades even more. It helps me, it helps my little one, and when everything is so hectic it’s time to do something for just me. I can listen to my audiobook on a walk in peace. That is also a little hack I’ve been using to get me moving, I’m only allowing myself to listen to my book when I’m walking. It’s the little extra push I need to get going when I would rather sit scrolling. With working so hard on the business and being back at work, I’ve been neglecting my health and it’s been getting me down. I am trying to fit in small changes around everything else which isn’t easy when I want to go full bore. But you can’t work on everything all at once and I’m learning to let “good enough” be okay, which is not easy but I’m trying and that’s all any of us can do.
🌸 Favourite Flower This Month:
Amaranthus. These deep wine, trailing beauties with their dark foliage are my October obsession. They’re so gorgeous and I’m in love!
📚 What I’m Reading/Listening to:
Reading: The Feminist’s Guide to ADHD by Janina Maschke (and yes, I finished it, finally).
Listening to: “I hate you so much” by sweet love, Xzibit . It is so catchy, and I love something that I can belt out in the car 🤣
✨ Highlights from September:
Our Cosy Circle workshop with book vase arrangements, no two were alike and it’s just such a lovely time with these gals. There is nothing better than a craft night with a great group 🧡
Launching my website shop (!!). Again progress over perfection, I’m going to keep working on it but any feedback is always appreciated 😆
Making it through to the Scottish EDGE Young EDGE Final, I mean wow!! When I so publicly announced that I was entering, these last few days have been scary to say the least. I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to get through and I would look stupid but I truly believe what I said when I announced that I was entering. We need to share the journey not just the goal. Getting through to the final is another step for me in that journey and I’m going to take you through every bit no matter the outcome. 🥰
That’s me for now. (Let me know what you think of the new format!) Thanks for sticking around and letting me share both the polished blooms and the messiness that we all have.

Behind the Blooms #3
Flaurals’ August newsletter is here, and it’s blooming with behind-the-scenes studio chats, favourite flowers, and a Caithness Show recap (including where the flowers went afterwards). Whether you missed the email or want to revisit the updates, this blog version brings you all the petals and personal stories. Plus, get a sneak peek at what’s coming in September: think wildflowers, workshops, and a romantic, moody studio vibe…
Hey flower lovers,
I’m Laura – the hands (and heart) behind Flaurals Floristry. Welcome to my monthly round-up where I give you a peek behind the petals at what’s blooming in my world as a Scottish florist, creator, and small business owner based in Caithness.
🌸 The Caithness Show: Field Flowers, Sustainability & Big Feelings
One of my favourite moments this month was designing the arrangements for the Caithness Show hospitality tent. Think big, beautiful, locally grown blooms – all foam-free, of course – designed to celebrate summer and community. Afterwards, I donated the arrangements to local care homes to spread the joy a little further. It felt like a full-circle moment of why I do what I do.
💐 Newsletter No.3 - Closer Than Social Media
If you’ve been enjoying my Instagram or TikTok (@flaurals.floral.design), the newsletter takes things up a level. It’s where I share the behind-the-scenes chaos, creative wins, and very real small biz moments that don’t always make the grid. This month, subscribers got the full download on:
